What do Osteopaths treat?

Osteopathy is a system of assessing, diagnosing, treating and preventing a wide range of health problems, and treatment is suitable for patients of all ages.

The most common reasons to consult an Osteopath include:

·      Back pain and/or pain radiating into the legs ("sciatica")

·      Headaches, neck pain or pain radiating into the arms/hands

·      Joint or muscle pain

·      Tension, inability to relax

·      Sport/recreation related injuries

·      Postural problems

·      Arthritis related pain or tensions related to ageing

·      Digestion problems

·      Discomfort during pregnancy

Research into osteopathic treatment is gaining pace and so far it supports its efficacy in treating the above. As an example, CLICK HERE to see the research summary from NCOR on the subject of back pain.

Osteopathy cannot be considered as a ‘cure-all’ however, and this is why a thorough case history is required on the initial consultation (and your symptoms will be constantly monitored in subsequent follow-up appointments) in order to determine whether treatment is appropriate or if you should be referred elsewhere (e.g. to your GP) for a different type of care/investigation.
